I was 19, stepping into the real world, and I was blown away by the people and the culture at Dofasco.” His dedication during the internship earned him a full-time position in the Global Research and Development (R&D) department, where he spent nine transformative years.
At R&D, Oshana’s roles evolved to keep him engaged and growing. “I had four different job titles in nine years,” he explains. “If you speak up and prove yourself, ArcelorMittal rewards you with more responsibilities. That’s one thing I really love about this company.” His Over the past 11 years, Serge Oshana has transitioned through diverse roles, from a college intern at the ArcelorMittal Dofasco in Hamilton, Ontario, to his current position as a Customer Technical Supervisor at ArcelorMittal International in Chicago. work ranged from product characterization—testing steel for strength and ductility—to specializing in automotive formability, which introduced him to American customers and OEMs. “I enjoyed troubleshooting formability issues and providing recommendations to improve processes. It was a rewarding experience.”
In March 2024, Oshana embraced a new challenge, moving to Chicago to join ArcelorMittal International’s sales department. “It’s a completely different pace of work,” he says. “It’s much faster, and I love it. My role is now heavily customer-oriented, acting as the technical link between our mills and our customers.” Oshana’s expertise supports both clients and internal sales managers, ensuring smooth communication and problem-solving. ““There’s always something happening, and my role allows me to contribute meaningfully to keep everything running smoothly.”
The move from Hamilton to Chicago was not just a career milestone but a personal aspiration fulfilled. “I’ve always wanted to work in the United States,” Oshana shares. “When I found this job on our internal website, it aligned perfectly with my skills and dreams.” ArcelorMittal’s support made the transition seamless. “They covered my moving costs, provided legal assistance, and even helped me find an apartment. Their efforts made the decision so much easier.”
Beyond his professional achievements, Oshana is inspired by the company’s global impact and sustainability initiatives. “We’re leading investments in reducing our carbon footprint and going carbon-neutral by 2050,” he notes. “It’s exciting to work for a company making real-world differences.”
