ArcelorMittal today announced the appointment of Suresh Rajapakse as Vice President and Head of Health, Safety, Security, Environment & Sustainability for Mining.

The appointment is effective from 5 February 2012. Suresh will be based in London and will report to Peter Kukielski, Chief Executive, ArcelorMittal Mining and Member of ArcelorMittal Group Management Board.

Suresh joins ArcelorMittal from Rio Tinto where he worked for nearly twenty years, having joined in 1992. Suresh held various senior positions at Rio Tinto during his time at the company. Most recently he was the Head of Global Safety, Aviation and Process Safety.

Peter Kukielski, Chief Executive, ArcelorMittal Mining and Member of ArcelorMittal Group Management Board, commented: “Suresh has lengthy experience in the industry and I am delighted that he has chosen to join ArcelorMittal Mining. Health and safety is the number one priority for ArcelorMittal and Suresh will be instrumental in our drive to achieve zero harm. Suresh holds a B. Eng. (Hons) degree in Minerals Processing Engineering from Camborne School of Mines in the United Kingdom.
