Sapan Gupta

Sapan Gupta, vice president of ArcelorMittal, was appointed group general counsel of ArcelorMittal in July 2021.

Background

Sapan is an attorney with over 20 years’ experience. He started his career with Tata group in 2000 and later worked with ICICI Bank, Standard Chartered, HSBC and Bajaj Group. He has worked in the New York office of Sidley Austin LLP and was also a senior partner at Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, one of India’s largest law firms. Prior to his current role at ArcelorMittal Sapan was general counsel for AM/NS India.

Sapan has worked in London, Mumbai, New York, and San Francisco. Sapan graduated from the University of Delhi with a degree in Commerce and his LLB Law qualification. He was awarded his LLM at Harvard Law School and attended the LSE as a Chevening Gurukul Scholar.

Sapan holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Delhi, India. He completed his Master of Laws (LLM) from Harvard Law School, USA as a Tata Scholar. Sapan was also a Chevening Scholar (at London School of Economics). Sapan has won awards and recognition from Chambers, IFLR 1000, The Legal 500, Asia Law 500 and The Lawyer Hot 100 (2023).

Sapan is licenced to practice law in India and in the State of New York.
