Not just steel. Smarter steel.
Think all steels are the same? Think again. ArcelorMittal’s revolutionary steels keep getting stronger, lighter and more specialised, helping customers hit targets for performance, cost, safety and sustainability that were impossible before now.
We explore how we are putting innovation at the heart of our success.

ArcelorMittal Multi-Part Integration® (MPI) combines our advanced steels and unique laser welding technology to radically simplify vehicle assembly.
Our Magnelis® coated steels resist corrosion better than alternative materials – ideal for solar energy installations that are subject to harsh environmental conditions.
With our XCarb® range, customers reduce the carbon footprint of their products by using steel made with high levels of recycled content and renewable energy.
Artificial intelligence. Real results.
ArcelorMittal has pioneered AI for more than 20 years. Today, our Global R&D team employs around 100 AI specialists, combining our own AI solutions and global datasets with cutting-edge technologies and ideas to realise AI’s potential across our business.
We explore how we are embracing the opportunity of AI.

By developing bio-mimicking AI algorithms based on the efficiency of ant behaviour, we have optimised our production lines to save millions of dollars each year.
Our Sentinel AI platform is making steel mill machinery much more reliable, predicting failures with 100% accuracy so we can fix potential problems before they happen.
We are using AI to take products to market faster, slashing development timelines from up to five years to less than one and analysing patents 10-times faster.
Designing a world without waste
Steelmaking is a complex business. Every link in the chain is another opportunity to make our business more efficient, effective and sustainable. Our process innovations are moving us closer to a circular economy where no resource or effort is wasted.
We explore how we developing breakthrough process innovations.

Our I-See Toolbox is an industry first, equipping steel plants with laser sensors, high-resolution cameras and AI-powered diagnostics to spot and reduce diffuse dust emissions.
R&D works in the assessment of how emerging technologies impact slag properties and in the development of process solutions to tailor slags for high-value valorization. Part of these activities are framed in EU-funded projects, where we contribute with our expertise and leadership in this area. For example, the ECO-SLAG-CEM project focuses on the environmentally compatible optimization of electric arc furnace slag for producing low-carbon advanced green cement. Additionally, initiatives like Investigations of Slags from Next Generation Steel Making Processes (insgep.eu) and SmartSlag, dedicated to the smart valorization of steel slags for enhanced metal recovery and circular applications, further illustrates our innovative approach.
With AI-powered vision systems that analyse impurities in scrap, we are increasing recycled content in our steels without compromising on quality or performance.
Safer and circular
In mining, dealing with outputs like tailings and waste is usually seen as a burden. But we see it differently. We use circular economy principles to transform these materials into new things that reduce safety and environmental risks, generate revenues and benefit local communities.
We explore how technology is making mining safer and more sustainable in our Steel Talks podcast.

We are recycling tailings waste into useful products like cement and solar panel components to reduce environmental impacts and create employment opportunities for local people.
From recycling urban waste to extracting ‘black mass’ from recycled batteries, we are developing alternative sources of carbon that do not rely on coal and fossil fuels.
We are exploring ‘cold bonding’, which replaces heat in the sintering process with chemical agents, with the potential to reduce CO2, dust and energy costs.
